City of Monticello

City of Monticello

Monticello, located in Jasper County, was incorporated in 1808 as the county seat and in 1810 as a town. Due to the large number of native Virginians who made the city their home, it is believed that Monticello was named for Thomas Jefferson's home in Charlottesville, Virginia. Monticello is home to the Forsyth Street Historic District with dogwood lined streets of Antebellum and Victorian homes and cottages.
